Fixing a Stripped Crank Handle If you are turning your window handle and it is not opening or closing, the gears on the handle crank have probably been stripped away. The first thing to do is to remove the handle and inspect it for signs of wear and tear. If the teeth have worn away, you will need to replace the handle (which you can get from various manufacturers, even home and garden stores), or you can contact your casement window installation professionals.
