Ontario Home Energy Savings Program
This program is composed of two components:
1) The Home Energy Audit and
2) The Retrofit Rebate
Put simply, the Home Energy Audit Program is the portion of the program that establishes the benchmark on how much energy your home uses and where you are losing energy. You need to have a Home Energy Audit conducted on your house in order to take advantage of the Retrofit Rebate Program. However, the Government of Ontario will cover 50% of the Home Energy Audit cost, up to $150.
As part of the audit you will receive a personalized Energy Efficiency Evaluation Report.
After completing your Home Energy Audit, you can take advantage of Retrofit Rebates of up to $5,000 from the Government of Ontario plus $5,000 in matching rebates from the Federal Government by making improvements to your home that help you save energy and money.
For windows, you can receive a rebate of $80 for each window you replace with an Energy Star qualified window for your climate zone.
For doors, you can receive a rebate of $80 for each exterior door you replace with an Energy Star qualified door for your climate zone.
So for example, if you replace 12 windows in your home with new Energy Star qualified windows, you can receive a rebate of up to $960!
The Ontario Government has published an excellent brochure that explains the details and limitations of the program. You can download a copy from the following link based on what was available as of on their website on June 9th, 2009:
