Gutters collect water and move it away from your home’s foundation. When they become clogged, they don’t work properly and can cause leaks, especially during the rainy months. To avoid leaking gutters in the spring and fall (when it rains the most) it is important to perform routine maintenance. When not taken care of, leaky gutters can translate to cracks in your roof and cracks in your foundation. You can stop leaking gutters before they start. Here’s how: Take a walk To find out if your gutters are clogged, take a walk around your house. Look at your gutters’ downspouts. If these are clogged, you’ll notice it right away. Clogged downspouts don’t allow water to pass through and result in buildup. Eventually this buildup gets heavy and causes your gutters to sag. On your gutter walk, look out for cracks or holes in the caulking. You can fill in these damaged areas yourself with silicone caulk.
